About Carl Zeiss, Cambridge Cambridge Scientific Instruments, which later became Carl Zeiss Microscopy Ltd., developed the world’s first commercial scanning electron microscope in Cambridge in 1965 in partnership with the University of Cambridge. Carl Zeiss business groups in Cambridge include Microscopy, Medical Technology, Camera Lenses and Sports Optics, Their Cambridge facility has five application laboratories for electron and light microscopes and also demonstration and training facilities for surgical microscopes, medical diagnostic equipment, camera lenses, binoculars and scopes. Carl Zeiss provides a modern working environment for all employees and a welcoming environment for customers. Our visit – marking the 50th anniversary of that first commercial scanning electron microscope - will include an overview of each side of the business by the Managing Directors of both Carl Zeiss Ltd (Paul Adderley) and Carl Zeiss Microscopy (Bob Taylor), and a tour of the electron microscopes production factory and research & innovations department.
