Monica Emili Garcia-Segura is an MRC-DTP PhD student within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at University of Cambridge, and an Honorary Research Associate in the Department of Metabolism, Imperial College London.
Over the last 9 years, Monica has made key contributions to the understanding of the pathobiology of central nervous system (CNS) diseases. Her research in neurodegeneration led to the identification of novel metabolic and genomic dysregulation in Alzheimer´s disease and multiple system atrophy, as well as novel small-molecule therapeutics for the treatment of ischemia and progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). Monica’s most recent work is focusing on lipid metabolism and mitochondria to find novel ways to modulate human, chronic inflammation and favour CNS repair. Monica’s laboratory activity is documented in more than 21 PubMed-indexed publications - including Nature, Journal of Neurochemistry, Movement Disorders - which have received >400 citations, having a h-index of 9.
