The Ray Dolby Centre (RDC) is the new centrepiece of the Cavendish
Laboratory - named in recognition of the £85M donated to the project by
sound pioneer Ray Dolby - which replaces existing facilities for the
Department of Physics at Cambridge West.
The building is designed to support more than 1000 scientists and students
engaged in world-leading research within research groups, each with their
laboratories, cleanrooms, office and support accommodation.
Its public wing houses lecture theatres, seminar rooms, a learning resource
centre, outreach spaces and a café. It also hosts the redesigned Cavendish
Museum, a new exhibition of scientific objects, archival imagery, and untold
stories, tracing the Laboratory’s legacy from its founding 150 years ago to the
present day.
